Auction Types
Choose the right auction format for your guild
Types of Auctions
Guild Manager supports three different auction formats to match your guild's loot distribution style.
Open Bid
Real-time bidding with full transparency
Everyone can view all bids as they happen. Perfect for competitive environments where you want everyone to see the current market value.
How it works:
- All bids are visible in real-time
- Members can see who's bidding and how much
- Competitive and transparent
Best for:
- Guilds that value full transparency
- Creating competitive bidding environments
- When you want everyone to know the market value
Sealed Bid
Confidential bidding until auction ends
All bids remain private until the auction closes. Winner is the highest bidder.
How it works:
- All bids remain private until the auction ends
- Winner is the highest bidder
- Only revealed after auction closes
Best for:
- Preventing bid sniping
- Reducing competitive pressure
- When you want members to bid their true value
Vickrey Auction
Second-price sealed bidding
Highest bidder wins but pays the second-highest bid amount. Encourages honest bidding without overbidding.
How it works:
- Bids are sealed (private)
- Highest bidder wins
- Winner pays the second-highest bid amount
Best for:
- Encouraging honest bidding
- Preventing overbidding
- Theoretical fairness (winners pay fair market value)
Example:
- Player A bids 500 DKP
- Player B bids 300 DKP
- Player C bids 400 DKP
- Result: Player A wins but only pays 400 DKP (second highest)
Choosing the Right Format
Open Bid
Use when you want maximum transparency and competitive bidding. Everyone sees all bids in real-time, creating an exciting auction atmosphere.
Sealed Bid
Use when you want to prevent bid sniping and encourage members to bid what they truly value the item at, without being influenced by others' bids.
Vickrey Auction
Use when you want to encourage honest bidding. Members bid their maximum without fear of overpaying, since they'll only pay the second-highest amount.
